My work is the result of continual awe- of natural processes, the dramatic revelations of light on form, and the discoveries and pleasures that come from engaging with materials.
The poetic architecture of the natural world reveals itself in surfaces and cross-sections of rocks, plants and terrains. The improvised habitats of all types of creatures reveal intersections of matter, the elements and living things. These are seductive subjects- and recent forays into making handmade paper, recycling found materials, and creating encaustic wax art forms have opened new doors for me to interpret and recreate natural processes and artifacts. Paper and wax, together or alone, offer distinctive ways to straddle dimensions, blurring the boundaries between painting and sculpture, between representation and tangible object.
Bio
Before completing an Honours Bachelor degree in Art and Art History from McMaster University, I was fortunate to have had the gift of immediate and extended family who valued art and learning. A career in teaching secondary Visual Art in Toronto and Peel Region left little time to develop large bodies of work, but I was able to stay connected to earlier explorations, receiving recognition at juried exhibits and events in Toronto and surrounding areas. A recent move to Stratford, Ontario has inspired me to explore and experiment, and has nudged me into new directions in both subject and medium.
